No one but you. You need to take charge and empower yourself. The cops aren’t going to do it unless, God forbid, something has already happened to you. If a simple measure of arming yourself with an inexpensive self defense product could save your life…why wouldn’t you?

Stand up for yourself! Tell others to stand up for themselves. It’s in your hands. But, please don’t ever tell yourself, “It could never happen to me!” It happens everyday, everywhere, every minute. People like you are being assaulted, killed, and the assailants are getting away with it.

Get pissed off. But, don’t ever make the mistake of assuming that you are immuned to these unavoidable crimes.

I pondered this after they left for home. I asked myself why would anyone not want to have some form of protection even if they never had to use it? The answer was simple, so simple in fact that it was like a slap in the head. They have never been through an experience where they felt it was warranted.

I was sexually assaulted once, almost twice. The last time, I was expecting my first child. Previous to that, I was stalked by an older man at the tender age of fourteen. Everyday, when I got off the school bus, he was there waiting and followed me home in his pick up truck. I was young and foolish and just saw it as an annoyance. I never told my parents, just complained to my friends and giggled it off. I cringe at the thought of what could have happened to me now that I’m older and wiser. I could have easily become a statistic, never being seen again.

I could have avoided the sexual assault two years later by the simple use of a stun gun or pepper spray. These products weren’t available to the public back then. But, they are now. Now, I cringe at the thought that someone wouldn’t want to have some type of defense and hopefully never have to use it. Let’s face it girls.

Most of us…and I emphasize “most of us”, are not strong enough to fend off an attacker. As much as we would like to think we are, and would know exactly what to do, it simply doesn’t work that way. I’m sorry, but that’s the way nature designed us. I am 120 pounds and stand five foot two inches tall. But just knowing that I have a little box in my hand that can bring an attacker down in one second, has given me a renewed confidence that I had lost long ago. It has given me a new freedom that I hadn’t had for over thirty years.

I’m not only speaking to the gentler sex. The same also holds true for smaller men that are being harrassed by bigger men. There is no shame in being armed with something that packs a punch or disables your attacker long enough for you to get away. The form of protection you choose is simply a matter of personal preference whether it’s a stun gun, pepper spray or a personal alarm. Whatever it is, just have it. Come see us at our online store!

Suddenly and unexpectedly, someone grabs you by the neck from behind and forces you into the bushes. Your breath is cut off by the strength of his arm around your throat. You struggle with all your might, with everything you’re worth, but the person that has you in his grasp is strong and determined.

Scenerio #1: You submit because there is nothing you can do against your aggressor.

Scenerio #2: You have come prepared with pepper spray, or a stun gun. However, it’s in your fanny pack, zipped up. You can’t get to it.

Scenerio #3: You had your pepper spray, or stun gun in your hand. You are ready. You reach up and administer your defense in one shot. He releases you and he is down on the ground screaming, helpless. Now, you are in control.

Scenerio #1 is not acceptable. Scenerio #2 is not acceptable, but better. Scenerio #3 has saved your life.

Be careful, be mindful of your safety. But always be prepared.

Tip #1: If you have gone to the inexpensive expense of carrying pepper spray, don’t leave it in the bottom of you bag or stuffed in a pocket where you will need to fumble for it. When walking alone, or in any situation that you feel vulnerable, always have it ready to use, if needed. Hold in in your hand.

Tip #2: Practice using it. but please do not spray it at someone unintentionally. Practice flipping it open with you thumb and aiming. Knowing how to operate it is very easy, but practice will make it perfect. If you find yourself in a situation that you have to use it, it’s best that you know exactly how to use it affectively.

Tip #3: The most important tip…always be prepared. Even if you don’t feel threatened.  But, remember that these life saving tools are not toys. Never spray anyone just to see if it works. It does work, and works very well.

But, that didn’t help me much when I was out by myself…alone…in the dark…on some obscure street or parking garage. All I had was a small pocket knife somewhere in the depths of my purse. The unease of walking downtown at night clung to me like a wet, cold blanket.

I stumbled on this venture solely for my own and my daughters protection. I armed myself with pepper spray. I certainly didn’t want to kill someone, so this was a better choice of self protection. I was thinking only of myself and my daughter at the time, but it occurred to me, what about all the other women…AND men out there that don’t have a clue where to start?

How many attacks or rapes could be prevented if every woman out there was prepared. Hundreds! No, thousands per year.
